Amsterdam Hampshire - Theatre District Hotel Review

January 31, 2014

SIZE

Room 111 is pretty tiny and I believe it's referred to as a 'compact single' or something like that by the booking website. It's a narrow room (typical small-sized Amsterdam room) but comfortable for 1 person.

DESK

There is a desk and chair in the room, but the chair will only fit on right-side short end of the table. You can't put the chair in the wide part of the table because the bed is in the way. The room also has a tall cabinet for clothes and things. A small safe is located in the cabinet.

HEAT

Heat in the room worked properly (controllable radiator). Although the window by the radiator was quite drafty, the heat could be turned up high so the draft was not an issue. Also the thick curtains by the window was a good insulator.

BATHROOM

Basic little shower, toilet and sink in this small but functional bathroom. Water pressure is very very low. Plenty of hot water. There is a retractable clothes line on the wall, and the sink has a rubber plug. It came in handy when I had to wash some socks one day. Lighting in bathroom however was weak.

VIEW

There is a window looking down onto Stadhouderskade and the canal (Leibansgracht?) across the street. Nice view.

LIGHTING

Pretty good choice of lighting. There's a mounted desk lamp, a ceiling light, mounted lamp on headboard, and a standing lamp.

STAIRS

There is a tiny elevator in the hotel but I never used it. My room was on the 2nd floor (the Europeans would call it the 1st floor) and was easy to get to. Just take the stairs by the dining room up 2 short flights, and room is immediate left of the stairs' door.

WIFI

Very good internet connection in the room and dining room.

TV

There was a flat screen TV with about 2 dozen channels or so. Several English language BBC channels and both Eurosport channels. No RT.

FOOD

Breakfast is extra, I believe 9 Euro. However there is a self-serve machine for FREE TEA AND COFFEE available around the clock!

BED

Good sized bed for one person but as usual in Amsterdam, very soft (un-firm) and not very comfortable.

EXTRAS

They have iron and ironing board available. I used it when I first got there and they stayed in the room my whole visit, despite housekeeping having cleanded the room several times.
