Alaska Coffeeshops?
December 25, 2015When someone wishes to enjoy a good smoke in Amsterdam Holland, they can simply walk into one of the 200 cannabis coffeeshops available in the city.
There, they can purchase high quality bud at a reasonable price. But what happens next is where the magic happens.
They then are allowed to actually smoke their stuff on premises - something that is almost impossible to find in the United States.
But that is set to change in 2016.
According to media reports, Alaska will legalize the consumption of cannabis in designated public establishments.
This means Alaska would become the first US state to legalize public consumption establishments.
Several US states now allow legal recreational cannabis, sold in so-called dispensaries. But after a purchase at a dispensary, there's just about nowhere to go to legally light up.
That is, until Alaska decided to tackle this potentially huge market.
The first of the legal smoking cafes in Alaska will likely be open this summer.
The state of Alaska could see not only a huge rise in tax revenues from the cannabis industry (as seen in Colorado), but Alaskan tourism could benefit immensely as well.
