Hempstalk Harvest Festival
January 2017Founded in 2005, the Hempstalk Harvest Festival is an annual event that takes place in Portland Oregon.
The two day festival has always been a public event with no admission fee. It has been free for anyone of all ages to attend.
The focus of Hempstalk is to highlight the many uses of agricultural hemp, as well as to educate the public about the benefits of the cannabis plant in the hope of ending cannabis prohibition.
Past speakers at the event include cannabis pioneer Jack Herer, Libertarian Presidential Candidate Governor Gary Johnson, and Green Party Presidential Candidate Dr. Jill Stein.
Music is a big part of the festivities, with past performers including Amy Nelson (daughter of Willie Nelson) and Cathy Guthrie (daughter of Arlo Guthrie),
Hempstalk draws thousands of attendees. In its first two years, Hempstalk drew around 10,000 people each year. In 2007, Hempstalk grew to almost 20,000 attendees. In 2009, approximately 40,000 people attended the two day festival, and in 2013 some 60,000 attended the two days of Hempstalk.
The 2016 edition of Hempstalk took place at Waterfront Park in Portland on September 24 and 25. It featured live music, food and product vendors, information booths and guest speakers.
