1989 Cannabis Cup
The second annual High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam Holland took place in November 1989.
This time around, six judges selected the winning entries made by four participating seed companies, which consisted of Sensi Seed Club, Super Sativa Seed Club, Nevil's Seed Bank and Cultivators Choice.
The winners came from Nevil's Seed Bank and their entries of Early Pearl, Skunk Number One, Northern Lights Number Five, Haze and various hybrids from cross breeding between them.
The man behind Nevil's Seed Bank is legendary cannabis breeder Nevil Schoenmakers. Schoenmakers, an Australian of Dutch descent, moved to The Netherlands in the mid 1970's where he set up some of the most successful cannabis seed companies, including Greenhouse Seeds with Arjan Roskam - widely known as the King of Cannabis.
A trailblazer, Schoenmakers was first to export seeds internationally from The Netherlands. This however landed him in jail as he became a target of the Drug Enforcement Agency in the United States.
