The company that owns High Times recently purchased Dope Magazine. Dope Magazine has an event called the Dope Cup, and now High Times will be running it.
The first installment of the High Times run Dope Cup - right now officially being called the "HIGH TIMES DOPE CUP - HIGH DESERT" but High Times has been known to change the names over time - will occur on March 23-24, 2019 in California. At least that is the claim made by High times as of 2/19/19.
High Times has been known to cancel many of their events after announcing them, mostly due to permit issues with local authorities. So one has to always question whether High Times advertising an event happening will actually happen.
The inaugural HIGH TIMES DOPE CUP - HIGH DESERT (High Times doesn't have the best track record of naming events either) is to take place at a baseball stadium in Adelanto California -- about an hour and a half drive from Los Angeles. The facility hosting the Cup is Adelanto Stadium - a baseball stadium home to the High Desert Yardbirds baseball club, playing their ball in the Pecos League, which is a league independent of Major League Baseball. High Times indicated at one point that they expect something like 12,000 people to attend. The stadium capacity is just under 4,000 but there appears to be plenty of surrounding open area. Fast-food outfit 'Bravo Burgers' is located nearby, offering a fine selection of American and Mexican foods, plus breakfast.
HIGH TIMES DOPE CUP - HIGH DESERT is currently the only event appearing on the Cannabis Cup website, which is a bit surprising as High Times is carrying quite a bit of debt and events like this is where they generate the vast majority of their revenue. This is according to reports of their financial records made public before plans of their initial public stock offering.
