The 2019 Detroit Cannabis Cup took place on August 17th and 18th. It was the second Cannabis Cup to have taken place in Michigan in 2019.
According to the Detroit Metro Times, the first High Times Cannabis Cup was held in Detroit in 2011. It was marred by police arresting some of the attendees and disallowing the consumption of cannabis. The Cannabis Cup returned to Michigan in 2014 in the city of Clio.

The 2019 DETROIT CANNABIS CUP was added to the High Times schedule during the second week of June in 2019.
This brings the total number of upcoming Cannabis Cups currently scheduled to two, according to CannabisCup.com, with the Bay Area Cannabis Cup slated for late June.
High Times has another event currently scheduled for early August - Reggae on the River 2019 - but it is a music festival and not a Cannabis Cup proper. UPDATE: On June 17th, 2019, it was noticed on the CannabisCup.com website that the Reggae on the River event has been removed. The 2019 DETROIT CANNABIS CUP comes against the backdrop of Michigan recently legalizing recreational cannabis. Adults in Michigan can now legally possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis. However it's still early innings in this game, and as a result there is no where yet to purchase the good stuff other than so-called 'provisioning centers,' which require a medical marijuana card. Dispensaries appear to be coming early next year.
If the 2019 DETROIT CANNABIS CUP does indeed take place (numerous Cannabis Cups have been canceled after initial announcement) High Times has scheduled it to go down at a place called the Russell Industrial Center.
This is the first Cannabis Cup to be held in the Motor City since 2013, according to High Times.
